🚩The name "Sharavu" is derived from "Shara" which means arrow.
🚩About 8 centuries back, the "Stalapurana" or local legendary depicts, a very powerful king, Maharaja Veerabahu of Tuluva region, killed a cow by sheer mistake by shooting it with an arrow.
🚩He in reality meant to shoot the tiger which was standing besides the cow.
🚩 But, his unculpable terrible sin had to be erased, for which he did install a "Shiva Linga" as per the suggestion of a great sheer Shri Bharadwaja.
🚩The Shiva Linga has been worshipped thereafter as "Sharavu" and the newly formed Temple tank as "Sharatheertha".
💮Sharavu Maha Ganaphathy:

💮Historical Significance:
🚩Arunasura was a demon growing strong with powers and was disrupting peace on earth.
🚩Gods were helpless as Arunasura had secured special powers from Brahma that he cannot be killed by any two or four legged creatures.
🚩When Arunasura's bad deeds grew beyond control, Adishakthi came down on earth as a beautiful woman, lured him and teased Arunasura to agitate him.
Holy Rock and Hole From Which Bees Arrived |
🚩Angry Arunasura tried to kill Adishakthi, she turned herself in to a rock.
🚩Arunasura tried to break open the rock, during which a series of big furious bees emerged and stung him repeatedly till his death, thus eliminating one more bad soul on earth.
🚩On this success, Saints and Sages performed abhishekam to Goddess Adishakthi who later took the form of a Linga in the middle of the river Nandini.
🚩Thus the Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple is built around this.

🚩A few hundred years ago, the idol of Janardhana was damaged.
🚩A few villagers got together and made a new idol and established the same, after which Temple and village declined.
🚩Upon enquiring with scholars, it emerged that the original idol still has the full Sannidhana and hence the problem.
🚩The idol was repaired and placed back.
